What an awesome week!

This week we made our Read to Self goal of 20 minutes!  We know that Read to Self is so important because it helps us become better readers by giving us good time to practice!  We are now experts at what it should look like and sound like in our classroom during Read to Self.  We also learned about another Daily 5 rotation- Work on Writing!  Work on Writing is a time when we get to choose whatever we want to write about!  The kids are excited to have "dream journals" where they can write about whatever their little hearts desire... it is so fun reading all of creative things they write.

Work on Writing - practicing to become a better writer...

Writing Workshop

During Writing Workshop time, we spent the beginning part of the year being "writing detectives."  We talked about all of things first grade writers have to remember when writing.  Super important things like starting each sentence with a capital letter, making sure we have word spaces, putting punctuation at the end of our sentences, etc.  We used "Fix it Up!" pages to practice.  We also worked with partners to help us check our work when we were finished.  Next week we will start our first writing unit... personal narratives!

Thank you, parents, for taking the time to come to "Get the Scoop" night on Tuesday!  It was so fun getting to visit with each family about your child!  I look forward to working with you all this year!  What an awesome group of first graders!!

Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!
